Message from President Abdel Madjid Tebboune on the Occasion of National Martyr’s Day
Message from the President of the Republic, Mr. Abdel Madjid Tebboune, on the Occasion of National Martyr’s Day (February 18)
In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful, and prayers and peace be upon the most honorable of messengers. Citizens,
Algeria commemorates National Martyr’s Day, expressing the Algerian people’s loyalty for the blood shed by our martyrs on the path to liberation and emancipation, and honoring the great sacrifices endured by caravans of free patriotic men and women who realized after decades of struggle in the national movement’s school, that the colonization that brutally and destructively took over our pure land and disrupted its proud people for over 130 years, is a destructive settler colonization driven by the illusion of permanence, with no intention of relinquishing its resources and wealth. This illusion was thwarted by a sweeping revolution, blessed by Allah with the patience of a resistant people, their attachment to freedom and dignity, and their upholding of human values. A people determined to liberate the land that continuously rejected the colonial presence with uninterrupted resistance since the invaders’ hordes descended upon it. This resistance, which was recorded with pride in the national history and collective memory of the nation, solidified the understanding that armed struggle was the only option, and it was fought with bravery and worthiness. Despite the odds and challenges, they persisted in their cause until achieving victory.
As we commemorate their precious memory in a rising Algeria, we draw inspiration from their realization, gaining confidence in our country’s capabilities and harnessing its resources to elevate Algeria to the ranks of emerging nations. We are fully confident in the awareness of our people and youth that aiming towards this strategic developmental achievement, with its political, economic, and social dimensions, is the noblest collective challenge inspiring our wills and the most difficult bet that Algerians aspire to win. It is the truest expression of loyalty to our righteous martyrs, whose pure souls we remember on this National Martyr’s Day, and I extend my greetings and appreciation to my sisters and brothers, the Mujahideen.
« Long live Algeria »
Glory and eternity to our righteous martyrs.
Peace be upon you, and Allah’s mercy and blessings.
