
Launch of the National Volunteer Week for Cleanliness, Crop Protection, and Awareness Against Forest Fires

As a civic-minded institution deeply connected to its community and actively engaged in its surroundings, the University of Continuous Education – Didouche Mourad has launched a National Volunteer Week across its various centers under the slogan: “Our University, Our Responsibility… Let’s Keep It Green and Clean, and Turn Waste into Resources.”
The initiative kicked off on April 26, 2025, at the university’s Blida Center, with significant attendance from local authorities and social partners, led by Professor Yahia Jafari, the University Rector. In his opening remarks, he emphasized the importance of instilling values of environmental citizenship and collective action to preserve natural resources from threats such as forest fires, which are a recurring challenge during the summer season. He stressed the need for educational programs that reshape awareness about the environment, green spaces, and forests.
Key Activities at the Opening Ceremony:
– The event saw meaningful participation from representatives of:
– The Forestry Directorate and Forest Conservation Authority of Blida Province.
– The Regional Director of Trade and the Provincial Directors of Blida and Tipaza.
– Saad Dahleb University, the National Park of Chréa, and the Civil Protection Authority.
– A strong presence of university professors, students, and civil society representatives.
– Activities included:
– A field simulation exercise for extinguishing forest fires, supervised by the Civil Protection Authority, with the participation of university and local officials.
– Planting and landscaping initiatives within the university campus to promote positive environmental behaviors and set a practical example for both university and community stakeholders.
– Intensive cleaning campaigns around the campus, paired with awareness workshops on waste recycling.
Special Highlights:
– A study day on digitalization and its role in advancing higher education, including discussions on the use of artificial intelligence to predict and prevent risks, was held with the participation of experts and academics.
– During the event, Professor Yahia Jafari announced the creation of a Green Club at the Blida Center, dedicated to environmental issues and sustainable development.
– The university also honored the 2024 graduates of the Directorate of Trade, symbolizing the institution’s continued support for its institutional partners.
Goals of the Campaign:
Running until May 1, 2025, the campaign aims to:
– Raise environmental awareness.
– Foster a culture of sustainability.
– Encourage positive daily habits to minimize fire risks and maintain a clean, green university environment.
This volunteer awareness campaign is being led by Green Clubs at centers across 49 provinces and 10 annexes, continuing until May 1, 2025.
