
Conclusion of the First Intensive English Training Course for Health Sciences University Professors

The University of Continuous Education – Didouche Mourad hosted the closing ceremony of the first intensive English-language training program for professors of the Health Sciences University on Monday, July 7, 2025.
This milestone initiative lays the groundwork for the upcoming launch of first-year medical instruction in English in Algeria during the 2025–2026 academic year—a pioneering national step.
The training followed a hybrid format, combining in-person and remote sessions under the guidance of a specialized pedagogical team. It enabled professors from various regions of the country to benefit from a comprehensive academic experience aligned with international standards.
During the closing ceremony, participants were awarded certificates, reflecting strong engagement and enthusiasm for this forward-thinking move, which responds to global shifts in higher education and adaptation to modern demands.
In his remarks, Prof. Yahia Jafri, Rector of the University of Continuous Education, emphasized that teaching medicine in English is a strategic necessity—driven by global research trends and clinical practices—and will help Algerian students integrate into the international scientific landscape.
Prof. Merzak Guernout, Rector of the Health Sciences University « Mujahid Youssef El-Khatib », praised the fruitful partnership between both institutions, which significantly improved faculty English proficiency and prepared them for the next phase. He highlighted the importance of investing in human capital to meet educational reform goals.
Prof. Miliani from the Oran Center thanked the participating faculty for their dedication, describing the training as a foundation for pedagogical transformation in Algeria’s higher education system.
The training was led by Dr. Mohamed Belbrik, Head of the Department of Literature and Foreign Languages at the University of Continuous Education, and Prof. Khadija Mokaddem, English training coordinator at the Health Sciences University. Both ensured the delivery of high-quality academic content tailored to medical education needs.
This program marks a critical milestone in modernizing Algeria’s higher education system, paving the way for English-speaking generations of doctors, and boosting their scientific and professional competitiveness on the international stage.
