A specialized training course in English language instruction has officially begun today for professors from the University of Health Sciences, organized by the University of Continuous Education. This initiative is part of preparations for the upcoming academic year, which will see the introduction of medical sciences instruction in English.
The opening ceremony was held in the presence of Prof. Yahia Jafri, Rector of the University of Continuous Education, and Prof. Merzak Guernout, Director of the University of Health Sciences, along with several professors from both institutions. The event took place in a scientific and educational atmosphere that reflects a shared commitment to advancing higher education in Algeria.
The six-week training program aims to equip medical faculty members with the linguistic and pedagogical tools necessary to teach in English, aligning with the sector’s new strategic direction.
In his speech, Prof. Yahia Jafri emphasized the importance of such faculty-targeted training initiatives, stating that “the shift to teaching medical sciences in English requires proper qualification of faculty members, who are the cornerstone of the success of this major reform.”
Prof. Merzak Guernout, for his part, reaffirmed the significance of this training, expressing hopes that it will help strengthen English-language education as a national policy aimed at improving academic quality and reinforcing global engagement of Algerian universities. He concluded by highlighting the value of institutional cooperation, noting that this program is part of a broader series of future initiatives to generalize English instruction in scientific disciplines and enhance the role of English in Algerian higher education.
