Participation of the University Rector, Professor Yahia Jaafari, in a National Seminar on Prison Management

     By a gracious invitation from the Director General of Prison Administration, Professor Yahia Jaafari, participated on February 12, 2024, in the national seminar on the topic of enhancing partnership and coordination among all stakeholders to promote the involvement of civil society in efforts for the social reintegration of detainees, achievements, and lessons learned, in the presence of:

  • The Regional Representative of the International Organization for Criminal Reform in the Middle East and North Africa, Ms. Toghreed Jabr.
  • The Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Program, Ms. Blerta AliIko, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to Algeria.

   This seminar comes within the framework of presenting and discussing various efforts and contributions provided by state institutions and civil society organizations contributing to the process of social reintegration of detainees, mechanisms to improve and enhance their efficiency and effectiveness during the serving of sentences and after their release through post-release care, by enhancing coordination among all entities to build effective support networks. Among these entities is our university, which is responsible for the academic integration of detainees, where we have launched a program to care for 1,287 imprisoned students distributed across 30 provinces in partnership.

   The seminar was attended by officials from the ministries concerned with reintegration, sector officials including judges of sentence enforcement, directors of penal institutions, and heads of external departments of the prison administration responsible for social reintegration of detainees. Also, civil society representatives from cooperating associations with the prison administration participated, including the National Scouts, the National Observatory for Civil Society, the Supreme Youth Council, the Child Care Network, and many other stakeholders.
