\u00a0 \u00a0On Saturday, December 7, 2024, at the headquarters of the university’s administration in Dely Brahim, Algiers, the Rector of The University of Continuous Education – Didouche Mourad, Professor Yahia Djafari, inaugurated the first cohort of university professors enrolled in the Technical English Bachelor’s program as a second academic qualification. This program is managed by The University of Continuous Education.<\/p>

\u00a0 \u00a0In his opening address, Professor Djafari emphasized the importance of integrating English into pedagogical and scientific practices within Algerian higher education institutions. He highlighted this initiative as part of the ministry’s strategy, in line with the directives of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, Professor Kamel Baddari. The Rector reassured representatives of participating institutions about the high quality of training, which will be led by distinguished professors from Algerian universities. This initiative aligns with the ministry’s objectives to enhance university-level training, increase the active academic presence of Algerian universities internationally, and leverage the advantages of English for fostering innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurial culture, thereby reinforcing the university\u2019s economic role.<\/p>

\u00a0 \u00a0The training program was designed by experts and involves a multidisciplinary team of professors from various institutions. It aims to fulfill the public authorities\u2019 roadmap for introducing English into teaching and learning processes. A team of experienced administrators in distance education will oversee and support participants throughout the course.<\/p>

\u00a0 \u00a0Notably, 2,500 professors from 15 higher education institutions, including universities and elite schools in Algiers and Oran, have enrolled. Their training will follow a hybrid model (in-person and online). This program enables professors to acquire English language skills and benefit from specialized fields in the third year of the Bachelor’s program. Participants will select from areas such as economics, law, pharmaceutical medicine, and others, equipping them to adapt to using English in teaching and research.<\/p>

\u00a0 \u00a0The specialization options aim to enable Algerian researchers to access broader platforms for acquiring knowledge and publishing research in English, which will enhance the efforts of Algerian academic institutions and improve their international rankings through quality pedagogical and scientific management.<\/p>

\u00a0 \u00a0This training program complements the Technical English training previously launched by The University of Continuous Education for students. It has been highly successful, attracting new students and alumni alike. Since the start of the 2021\/2022 academic year, approximately 1,400 university professors across various disciplines, including 1,000 in English, have enrolled individually. Many are expected to graduate this academic year.<\/p>

\u00a0 \u00a0The official launch ceremony was attended by several university presidents and their representatives, including Professor Khaled Rwaski, Rector of the University of Algiers 3; Professor Kahina Djiyar, Director of the Higher School of Architecture; and Professor Sonia Bessalem, Director of the National School of Veterinary Sciences. Representatives from other institutions and key stakeholders from The University of Continuous Education were also present.<\/p>

\u00a0 \u00a0The event featured an opening lecture by Professor Bouhania Bachir, who emphasized the significance of learning and teaching in English within the academic community and provided guidance on succeeding in this program.
